Privacy Policy

Last updated 28 August 2026

The short version. We don't sell your information or your child's. There are no ads in BuzzBaby, and no advertising or analytics trackers. We keep an account for you and a profile for your child so the app can suggest activities that suit their age, and you can delete all of it from inside the app whenever you want. When you photograph a room, that picture goes to our servers and on to an AI service to identify the objects in it, and nowhere else. We do not keep the picture. The section on photos below explains exactly how that works.

This policy explains what BuzzBaby collects, why, and what you can do about it. It covers the BuzzBaby app on iOS and Android, and this website.

Who we are

BuzzBaby is made by Wemma Technologies Inc., a corporation registered in Ontario, Canada (Ontario Corporation Number 1001710538).

For anything about privacy, whether that is questions, corrections, deletions or complaints, write to info@buzzbaby.org.

Photos

This is the part of BuzzBaby people ask about most, so it is written out in full.

The photo you take of a room

BuzzBaby's camera is meant to be pointed at a space or an object, such as a playroom, a shelf, a toy box, not at your child. We say so in the app, because what the app needs is a list of the things around you.

To produce that list, the photo leaves your phone. It is uploaded over an encrypted connection to our own servers and passed to a third-party artificial-intelligence service that identifies the objects it can see. That service returns words like "wooden blocks", "plastic cup", "cushion".

Those words are saved against your child's profile, so the activities can be built from them and shown to you again later. The picture itself is not saved.

What happens to the picture after that:

Your photo leaves Canada

OpenAI processes these photos in the United States. That means the picture, and the age band and interests sent with it, leave Canada and are subject to United States law while they are there, including lawful access requests made under it. We have a written agreement with OpenAI that limits them to providing this service.

This is true of the rest of your information as well, and there is a section on it further down under Where your information is kept.

BuzzBaby asks for your agreement in the app before your first photo is ever uploaded, and explains this there too. You can use the whole rest of the app without ever taking a photo.

A child may still be in shot

We cannot promise that a child never appears in one of these photos, because children are usually where the toys are. That is exactly why we tell you to frame the room rather than the child, and why the picture is only ever used to name the objects in it before it is gone.

You can use BuzzBaby without the camera at all. Refuse camera access and the rest of the app (today's activity, the developmental web, the tracker, the library) works normally.

A profile picture, if you choose one

If you pick a photo from your library as your child's profile picture, it is saved only in the app's own storage on your device. It stays on your phone, and we never receive it. Deleting the app removes it.

BuzzBaby asks for camera and photo-library access only for these two purposes. You can refuse both and still use the rest of the app, and you can change your mind later in your phone's Settings.

What we collect

Your account

Your child's profile

So the app can suggest activities for your child rather than for children in general:

How you use the app

We use this to improve which activities the app suggests, and to make the activities better.

What you record in the Tracker

Anything you log in the Tracker is saved to your account on our servers, so that it is still there if you change phone, and so that you can get at your own records later:

Some of this is health information about your child, so we treat it that way. It is stored encrypted, it is never sold, it is never used for advertising, and it is not shared with anyone outside the companies listed below that run the service for us. We do not use it to draw any conclusion about your child's health, and no one on our team reads it except where you ask us for help with your account and we cannot help without looking.

You can delete it. Deleting your account removes your Tracker records along with everything else, on the timetable set out under How long we keep things.

Health information

Some of what you can record in BuzzBaby counts as health information about your child. That means your child's growth measurements, and your feeding, sleep and diaper entries. Because it is health information we hold it to a higher standard than the rest, and this section sets out exactly what that means.

We are not a healthcare provider, this is not a medical record, and nothing you record here is shared with your doctor unless you show it to them yourself.

What we don't do

The other companies involved

A small number of services help us run BuzzBaby, and they only receive what they need to do their job.

Children

BuzzBaby is designed for parents and caregivers, not for children. You must be 19 or older to create an account, and the app isn't meant to be handed to a child to use on their own.

The information about your child in BuzzBaby is information you chose to give us. Your child doesn't have an account and can't sign in, and we don't knowingly collect anything directly from a child.

We never use children's information for advertising or profiling. If you believe a child has given us information directly, write to info@buzzbaby.org and we'll delete it.

Paying for BuzzBaby

BuzzBaby is free to use, and the optional Plus subscription is bought through Apple's App Store or Google Play rather than from us directly. If you never buy Plus, nothing in this section applies to you.

Where your information is kept

BuzzBaby runs on Amazon Web Services in the US East (Northern Virginia) region. That means your account, your child's profile and everything you record in the Tracker are stored on servers in the United States, not in Canada.

We are a Canadian company and Canadian privacy law still applies to us and to how we handle your information. But while your information is in the United States it is also subject to the laws there, including requests for access by United States authorities under those laws. We think you should know that plainly rather than find it in a footnote.

Server logs, which include IP addresses, are kept for 30 days and then deleted.

How long we keep things

We keep your account and your child's profile for as long as your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete them.

When you delete your account from inside the app, you are signed out immediately and the account stops working. For 14 days we can still restore it if you email us and say you changed your mind. Within 30 days everything is purged for good, including from our backups, and after that we cannot recover any of it. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription billed by Apple or Google. See how to delete your account.

Your choices

In Canada these rights come from PIPEDA; in the United States, from your state's privacy laws. We apply them to everyone regardless of where you live.

If you aren't happy with how we answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Keeping it safe

Information travels between the app and our servers over an encrypted connection. Passwords are stored hashed, never in a form we can read. Access to our systems is limited to the people who need it.

No system is perfect and we won't pretend otherwise. If something goes wrong that affects your information, we'll tell you.

Changes to this policy

If we change how BuzzBaby handles your information we'll update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant, meaning new information collected, or existing information used in a new way, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect, rather than quietly editing this page.
